San Diego Community College District
The San Diego Community College District serves approximately 100,000 students each semester through three two-year colleges and six Continuing Education campuses. They are the second largest Community College District in CA and the 4th largest in the US.
The District was in the midst of $1.555 billion in new construction and renovations at the three colleges and Continuing Education campuses throughout the city.
- The existing communication system was outdated and could not support advanced software that the district wanted to utilize, but a complete overhaul was not in the budget.
- Each campus had a different voicemail system, and all were obsolete and difficult to get service for when needed.
- Administrators were unable to page the 450+ classrooms with information or instructions during emergencies.
STN was able to replace the outdated Mitel systems with the current versions that enable SDCCD to take advantage of IP networking and services, while maintaining existing resources for the end users. A single voicemail platform with unified messaging and a solution for emergency notification were included to meet all of SDCCD’s needs as campuses continue to expand.
- The Mitel migration available let SDCCD upgrade the main platforms, while keeping some of the existing infrastructure and desktop phones to maximize their budget.
- Centralized VM allows for ease of administration and flexibility to meet the specific requirements for each college and continuing education center while allowing for the deployment of speech enabled services and unified messaging.
- Paging can be initiated from anywhere via web or voice, reporting on the success of attempted pages down to each device, SMS and email notification, and the ability to generate a single call to a pre-determined list of over 10,000 critical cell phone users are all available with the solution from Mitel, Benbria, and Blazecast.
“The voice messaging systems StandardTel Networks has designed and implemented will provide a much-needed technological solution to challenges that face many higher
education institutions.”
